APS Helps Electrify Homes in Navajo Communities
Working with the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA), we’re helping to electrify rural homes within the Navajo communities of Tuba City and Cameron in northern Arizona. Supported by APS’s line extension program, which will cover up to $10,000 toward the cost of each home connection, and the Navajo Nation CARES Act funding, the collaboration will bring electric power to approximately eight homes before the end of 2020. This isn’t our first collaboration with NTUA. In 2019, we participated in Light Up Navajo, a joint project between NTUA and the American Public Power Association to connect Navajo homes to the energy grid. More than 100 lineworkers, including a crew from APS, traveled to the Navajo Nation for the six-week pilot project and extended electricity to 233 families, changing their lives dramatically.
